I love this stone. The first time I saw it I was immediately impressed by its beauty, and it made me feel good. I asked where I could find a piece for myself, which led me on a journey that culminated in my meeting the owner of the mine! I expected it to be unattainable because it is so beautiful. Our Honeycomb Calcite is rare, having recently been found. This new form of calcite only comes from the Utah mountains. I feel blessed, so now I share. Surround yourself with its warm natural beauty as we have done.

One of the things that people notice and like is the way the stone feels. Although it is heavier, it doesn't feel anything like concrete or granite. It feels smooth, warm and even soft to the touch, even though it is stone. If someone picks up a heart or a bear, for example, it may be several minutes before they put it back down—that's how good the stone feels to the touch.

The Scientific Stuff

The honeycomb look is formed by the growth of long fibrous or tubular crystal cells of honey yellow calcite outlined by white membranes surrounding each cell. The name "honeycomb calcite" originates from the remarkable honeycomb appearance when viewing a polished surface. Honeycomb Calcite is heavy, with a density greater than concrete or granite, yet is transparent and translucent. This stone varies in color, pattern, transparency, and translucency. It does not fade indoors, but will fade, eventually, outdoors in direct sunlight. The colors range from a soft, pale sunshine yellow to a deep, rich honey-golden amber depending on the thickness of the stone.

Finishes

Polished is smooth and shiny and has a glossy luster.
Satin / Feather is textured, matte, and has a semi-gloss luster.
Honed is almost polished and is smooth but not shiny.
